This is a handmade Chinese lacquer tea cup, finished in rhino skin lacquer (Xipi, 犀皮漆) over a black porcelain body, from the Yi Series by HFDlacquerware (禾丰鼎). At 3.5" across and 2.4" tall, it is sized as a host's cup (主人杯) for gongfu tea, puerh, oolong, or everyday drinking, and arrives in its own gift box. In the Yi Series (low relief), the groundwork is built low, so the colors move together as flow rather than dramatic relief. The pattern is built mound by mound, then polished until it comes into view, so no two cups are alike. It makes a meaningful gift for tea lovers, collectors of Chinese lacquerware, or a milestone such as a housewarming, anniversary, or retirement.
