This is a handmade Chinese lacquer tea towel tray, finished in rhino skin lacquer (Xipi, 犀皮漆) on a wood body, from the Chong Series by HFDlacquerware (禾丰鼎). At 7.3" × 3.0", it holds a folded tea towel (茶巾) beside the pot and cups on a tea table, keeping the cloth tidy and within reach through a gongfu session. In the Chong Series (high relief), the groundwork is built up high before the lacquer goes on, so the pattern rises and falls like terraced fields. Each Chong Series piece takes two to three years to make. The pattern is formed entirely by hand, so no two trays are alike. It makes a considered gift for someone who already has a tea set and cares about the small things on the table. The tea towel wipes away every drip and stays out of the way.
