This is a handmade Chinese lacquer round incense box, with lid and body finished in black, red, and gold rhino skin lacquer (Xipi, 犀皮漆), from the Yi Series by HFDlacquerware (禾丰鼎). Compact at 3.5" across and 1.8" tall, it stores incense coils, small jewelry, or keepsakes, and sits well as a decorative accent on a table or shelf. In the Yi Series (low relief), the groundwork is built low, so the colors move together as flow rather than dramatic relief. It takes months of hand layering and polishing, and the pattern forms on its own, so no two boxes are alike. A small round box, closed like a thought kept for later. Open it, and the colors carry on inside the lid. Also available: see the Round Incense Box in Black, Red & Cream.
