Each disc is decorated with natural raw lacquer using the traditional Rhino Skin Chinese Lacquer technique (Xipi). Colored lacquer is first built up into small raised mounds and left to cure. Successive layers of colored lacquer are then applied over the cured mounds, with curing time between coats. Finally, the surface is carefully sanded to reveal the layered patterns, then hand-polished to bring out the lacquer’s gentle sheen. Each piece develops its own distinctive pattern.
