This is a handmade Chinese lacquer painting, finished in flowing gold lacquer (Liu Jin, 流金) over a solid ebony panel, by HFDlacquerware (禾丰鼎). At 19.7" × 19.7" (50 × 50 cm), it is a one-of-a-kind wall piece for a living room, study, entryway, or anywhere a single work should hold the wall on its own.

Layer upon layer of natural raw lacquer (生漆) is applied by hand, then patiently polished until the gold rises through the dark ground. Because the gold settles differently in every layer, no two paintings are ever the same. It suits collectors of Chinese art and anyone looking for a gift with real permanence.

Nothing here is drawn. The gold is simply allowed to move, and then held still. Change the light in the room, and it moves again.
